Player Benefits

Frequently Asked Questions:

What are the player benefits?

A wide variety of benefits has been implemented as a safety net to protect players. The NBPA has negotiated and administers the plans jointly with the NBA.

  • NBA Active Players – Health Plan includes medical, dental, and vision.
  • 401(k) Plan
  • Post-Career Income Plan (The Bridge)
  • Health Reimbursement Account (HRA)
  • NBA Players' Pension Plan
  • Tuition Reimbursement

Who is eligible?

Three (3) years of service is required to qualify for a benefit from the Pension Plan.

While in the NBA, players may have met eligibility for various player benefits. All benefit plans are subject to the eligibility rules applicable to each individual benefit and time in the NBA.

Are all the Player Benefit Plans the same for every player in the NBA?

There are differences in the benefit plans based on whether they are active vs. two-way players and whether they play in Canada/Toronto. We have enclosed the Benefits-At-A-Glance materials for you to look over. Please note there is no substitute for the actual Plan documents, so we strongly urge all players to contact the NBPA to discuss player eligibility.
